How do I set up and use WebDAV with Cyberduck?

Upload or download resources from your local computer to the Resources tool using the WebDAV protocol via the Cyberduck application. This page describes how you can obtain the Cyberduck application, use Cyberduck to create a  WebDAV connection between your computer and the Resources tool within your site, and then how you can edit and move content between locations.

Note: There must be at least one object (file or folder) in the selected Resources or File Drop tool before you begin the setup procedure. This procedure needs to be done once for each tool before you can use WebDAV to transfer files to and from that tool.

Downloading and installing the Cyberduck WebDAV client

Download the Cyberduck WebDAV client and install it on your computer. Cyberduck is compatible with Windows and MacOS computers.

Note: When you download the software, you may be asked to donate or purchase a registration key. Doing so is not required to use the application.

Creating the WebDAV connection with Cyberduck

Go to Resources.

Select the Resources tool from the Tool Menu of your site.

Click Transfer Files.

Copy the site's WebDAV URL.

Copy the URL that's displayed in the Step 1 field.

Note: the URL that your site supplies for you may look quite different from the example provided on this page.

Open Cyberduck and then click the Bookmarks icon.

If you're using a Windows computer, open Cyberduck from your Start menu. If you're using a Mac, open Cyberduck from the Dock or Launchpad areas.

In the Cyberduck application, click the Bookmarks icon.

Click the + icon.

Click the + icon that is located near the bottom of the menu in Cyberduck.

Configure the WebDAV connection and then click Connect.

  1. Change the connection type, which uses 'FTP' by default, to WebDAV (HTTPS).
  2. In the Server field, paste the WebDAV URL. Return to Copy the site's WebDAV URL above to retrieve the WebDAV URL if you not longer have it available to use.
  3. Optionally, enter a nickname for the bookmark to assist with locating it next time you open Cyberduck.
  4. In the Username field, enter the user name that you normally use to log in to the site with which you wish to create a WebDAV connection. This is often your institutional email address.
  5. In the Password field, enter the password that you normally use to log in to the site with which you wish to create a WebDAV connection.
  6. Click the X icon to save and close the bookmark configuration.

Modifying Resources contents using the WebDAV connection

Open the bookmarked connection.

Double-click the bookmark to open it.

Modify contents using the WebDAV connection.

Drag, drop, download, and modify files and folders. Changes that you make within the WebDAV connection will update within the Resources tool in your site.

Note: If you have permission to read content in a site, you can download multiple files via WebDAV by dragging the files from the site's folder to a folder on your local computer. You can only save, edit or delete files in the selected site if you have the appropriate permissions in the site.
